Dictum

The way to live your life well really can be reduced to obeying the maxim of 'doing unto others as you would have them do unto you'. This doesn't mean organising food parcels. It does mean that if there is something for which you have a shared responsibility, know enough to exercise that.

I like a clean environment so I put my rubbish in the bin. I like to see out the window so I don't scratch my name in the glass. I like to sit down without getting marks on my clothes so I don't write on the seat. I choose how my wall and my fence will be painted so I don't tag.
I dislike second-hand doof-doof so I check the volume and adjust it accordingly.
Smoking is a choice so, even if I did smoke tobacco, I would never sit down next to someone eating their lunch and light up. They might not like smoke with their sandwich. They might be asthmatic.
I like to feel safe so I don't rob or rape or attack people.
