Far king hail

We interrupt this blog again with more breaking news.

Seven years after besting Queen Victoria's record reign and in her own seventieth year on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II died, aged 96.

History or providence arranged for Boris to have only just left the post of Prime Minister, leaving him to attend the service with all the other ex-PMs and Liz Truss having a key role as current leader. The incumbent US President Biden and wife Jill made a more conventional, not to say acceptable, guest than his predecessor and it was gratifying to see Justin Trudeau, Jacinda Ardern, Anthony Albanese and the like paying their respects, though there are already rumblings about Jamaica leaving the Commonwealth.

Prince Charles, whom I've admired since buying a book about his styling as a 'clown prince', is now King Charles III
