Asia miner

I remember years ago a female member of staff expressing her frustration "He said that the person on the phone had 'an Asian voice'. Well, we're all Asian". Indeed, there were members of staff from many different nations that were all part of Asia. And, to add to our aura of unsophisticated ethnic profiling, this was the Immigration department, where we were supposed to be informed about such things!

Not that I've ever embraced Prime Minister Keating's assertion that Australia is 'part of Asia'. We're busy being part of Australasia and Oceania.

Some sources would have it that Turkey and Cyprus are a part of Asia, but that claim has already been made for Europe (though, by all means, consider them part of Eurasia). Likewise, Egypt, which this blog has located in Africa.
(while I haven't been able to find a link to America the ensuing hegemony will take care of that)

The Orient is a vanishing term referring to the East. The Middle East encompasses southwestern Asia and Egypt, though it has come to extend to Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Caucasus, and North Africa.
